Striving for Harmony

We are well into Libra season and, as is typical for me, I am reflecting on my life with the lens of the season. Whether or not you have one of the big three in Libra (sun, moon, or rising), Libra impacts your energetic system. As with every sign, it occupies a house...

What does your dream look like?

I was watching TV when one of the characters asked the other, “What does your dream look like?” She had the same look on her face that I did. Blank. If you’re like me, you’ve spent the majority of your time doing for others (customers or clients, co-workers, parents,...

Most of us don’t know how to healthfully allow an emotion because we’re rewarded from an early age for presenting a calm, tough demeanor and shamed for expressing anything but that calm, tough front.

One of the healthiest things we can do for ourselves is to find a way to allow and feel the emotions we have so that we can make better decisions for ourselves. It’s like compound interest, it keeps building on itself.

There are many ways to access support to learn this new skill and break up the stuckness (therapy, coaching, meditation, yoga, peer support, and more), and, despite what you may have learned throughout your life, it’s not only ok to ask for help, it’s a sign of strength to ask for help.

From The Holistic Psychologist: When we use scrolling, food, sex, work, or anything else in a compulsive way— we’re seeking a way to soothe our nervous systems.
Many people believe (or have been told) it’s a lack of willpower that drives us to these behaviors— it’s not.
It’s our natural instinct to soothe ourselves.
Instead of understanding this: we beat ourselves up about it. Which, when we understand the nervous system doesn’t make much sense— because our instinct will always be to soothe.
This isn’t a moral failing. This isn’t because we are “not good enough” or “just don’t want to stop had enough.”
It’s because it’s how we (currently) know and habitually practice finding safety #selfhealers
